This role offers a fantastic opportunity to gain a central part in shaping future architectures of ABB’s industrial distributed and networked real-time solutions. The position is based at ABB Corporate Research Center in Västerås, where cutting-edge research meets real industrial impact.

You will belong to a highly motivated, international research team and create next generation industrial distributed and networked real-time systems, while collaborating with researchers, technology and product managers, system architects, and industrial partners. Your Role and Responsibilities

• Initiate, lead, and participate in research projects focused on innovative industrial distributed and networked real-time systems.
• Design, implement, analyze, and evaluate distributed and networked real-time operating systems.
• Validate ideas and concepts through prototypes and experimental pilots with a clear business relevance.
• Disseminate results through technical reports, patent applications, and scientific publications.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate research results into deployable and impactful solutions.
• Build a professional network of internal and external contacts to actively share and acquire new knowledge across the organization.

Qualifications for the role

• You hold an MSc or PhD degree in, Software Engineering, Distributed real-time systems, Communication Engineering or a related field.
• Deep knowledge of distributed real-time systems, including theoretical and practical.
• Real-time operating systems, virtualization, and containerization
• Knowledge of Ethernet, IP, and real-time extensions (TSN, DetNet) plus time-synchronization protocols.
• Prototyping expertise in embedded SW/HW systems- Containerized software development.
• Proficiency in software development (C, C++, Python, MATLAB, RTOS)
